Sustainability

Here at Aslan Adventure, our sustainability policy covers four main areas:

1.  Management and legal compliance

2.  Workplace

3.  Service Providers / Partners / Suppliers

4.  Clients

MANAGEMENT AND LEGAL COMPLIANCE

  • To have a clear, accessible sustainability policy and action plan which is observed and adopted by all staff members. These will be shared with partners, suppliers, clients, and other stakeholders.

  • To comply with all national legislation, regulations, and codes of practice.

WORKPLACE

  • Implementing the practice of Reduce, Reuse & Recycle within the office:

Reduce – Striving towards paperless operations by the end of 2023. Printing only when necessary.

Reuse – Printing on both sides of papers. Providing reusable dishes and cutlery for staff and clients.

Recycle – Participate in the local government program by separating waste for recycling and dropping it off at appointed recycling points.

  • Using printing paper brands that have a commitment to reforestation and conservation.

  • Utilizing biodegradable cleaning products where available.

  • Choosing sustainable supplier sources where possible.

  • Minimizing water and electrical consumption.

  • Encouraging cycling, walking or carpooling to work, if possible.

  • Use of environmentally conscious equipment: energy-saving electronics (Printers, lights), recycled paper for marketing materials.

  • Providing training on the sustainability policy implementation and goals.

  • We are committed to protecting the rights of children in compliance with national and international legislation. We do not employ persons younger than 18 years of age. We do not make use of any form of forced labor.

SERVICE PROVIDERS

  • Opting for sustainable transport options when possible, with priority to local companies to reduce our carbon footprint.

  • Encouraging transport companies to upkeep their vehicles hence improving efficiency and providing drivers with training on sustainable driving practices.

  • Eliminating single-use plastics on all our safaris by June 2023.

  • Giving preference to accommodations that comply with sustainability and quality standards regarding their approach to energy, water, waste, and human resource management.

  • We have zero tolerance for any form of child labor and sexual exploitation within our internal business operations including within our suppliers.

  • Encouraging partner accommodations to be more environmentally conscious.

  • Ensuring that qualified locals(guides, drivers) are given priority for jobs.

CLIENTS

  • Briefing clients on proper etiquette towards the local culture, nature, and environment.

  • Encouraging clients to choose sustainable transport and accommodation options.

  • Promoting activities and accommodations which benefit local communities.

  • Protecting client information.

Practical steps to put these principles into practice, as a company we intend to:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel when possible:  To meetings, use substitutes when available and practical, such as teleconferencing and video conferencing. Efficiently scheduling multiple meetings spread over one day of the week, reducing numerous commutes during the week. Choose to use online services when possible e.g. online banking.

  • Encourage employees to use public transportation.

  • Purchase of equipment and consumption of resources

  • Minimize the use of paper and other office consumables, e.g. double-sided printing of all materials that need to be printed, and identify opportunities to reduce waste. We also use FSC Certified photocopy paper.

  • Reuse or recycle office waste, including paper, computer supplies, and redundant equipment.

  • Reduce the energy consumption of office equipment by purchasing energy-efficient equipment: energy-saving bulbs, switching off lights when not in use, and using electronics in energy-saving mode.

  • Ensure that timber furniture is made from recycled materials or from companies that practice reforestation

Working practices and advice to clients

  • Make donations and volunteer with the local community and/or environmental organizations in order to counterbalance carbon emissions from our activities. Contribute and participate in Tree Planting projects.

  • Ensure that any associates that we employ take account of sustainability issues in their advice to clients.

  • Encourage them to choose local products to support communities and businesses.
